Capt. Mayq with his daughters at QCMM.

Stepping into Harry Potter’s universe as a Klingon Jedi with his daughters.

Attending quidditch on Friday at Queen City Magic & Mischief was straightforward and easy as I was on the clock, working on a forthcoming story for WMRA.

But Saturday was different.

I love Harry Potter … true, but why should I let the fact that I do NOT have a Potter-verse cosplay stop m e from attending such an event dressed for the occasion?

Now, a year ago … I would have.  Out of fear that I’d be signaled out or even draw attention to myself, I would have (and did) gone in street clothes.

Digging in the closet, I pulled out a tunic that I had made previously for my Klingon persona, slipped on the baldric, belt (which actually is a Jedi one I thought would look perfect with my Klingon look), robe (also Jedi in origin but same story) and finally a staff I just happened to have on hand.

I do have a wand, but honestly couldn’t find it  …. so …. grabbed a toy lightsaber and hung that from the belt, under the robe.

It’s the wand of a Jedi knight.  Am I right or am I right????

Now, both my daughters went with me and have to say … They did not even bat an eye.

THAT impresses me.

We poked around and mingled with the crowd.

Once, I heard a person laugh and say to there friend … “Hey! That’s a lightsaber!”

Another occasion … “Jedi …. Nice!”

But my favorite was the lady who came up to me and said … “I have to ask. Aren’t those Klingon?”

She was pointing to the pins on the baldric.

“Nice! … Great way to represent the different fandoms!”

From a distance, I did blend in. But it was when you began looking closer that you would  begin noticing the details.

I’m a huge fan of several different genres and wear that with pride.

NEVER … be afraid to express yourself and dress as YOU wish to dress when attending these events.

Just release your inner child and stand back.
